Defragging

I manage a few 03' servers and XP Pro workstations. What are the guidelines so far as need to defrag my drives? How often? What product?

On an NTFS parition you shouldn't have to defrag very often. To check you can open up your computer management mmc and connect to the other computers and look under the storage management. Thats what I do.

I defrag my servers and workstations once a week using a third party defrag software. I installed it and setup the scheduler once. It just runs automatically in the background.

Here's an article that might be of interest to you.

That article really made sense. Thanks Bind. Anyone else see an increase or better system performance when defragmenting on a regular basis?

No.
I rarely defrag my systems here at home, or at work. And those all get heavy useage. Of course this is on my NTFS drives-I defrag my 98 drives once a year or so.

I usually defrag once every 3-4 months, not very often at all.

Nice Article bind, I think that most people would not defrag seeing as the fragmentation report is incorrectly showing little or no fragmentation. Do you guys run the fragmenation analysis utility and then defrag based on that, if so you shold check out the above article.
