Counter-Strike

I've installed CS, not CS:S, but CS, and I'm able to play head to head via a 2p2 network with a cat5 cable, but what I really want to do is find a way of playing online.

I have a wired connection and a wireless connection from my uni, and they dont mind us using the net for chilling out, btw.

Each and every time I try to play or even see a server list, it says the connection could not be made, any suggestions?

I have Half-life 1 installed, and Counter Strike as well

Maybe the university is blocking the required ports to play CS online.

I'm sure thats what they're doing. You'll probably be out of luck on playing online unless you can tunnel your traffic out to another network.

How are you trying to play? The old way through Wan authentication or through the new way with Steam? Wan no longer exists for HL/mods.

Download Steam (Codex provided you the link). Within the install you can create a new account. After you create a new account add your CS cd-key. You are going to download a hefty amount of updates too, so make sure you are on a fast connection. The only thing nice about steam is that it auto updates.

cool, I'll have to clean out my desk draw then, my HDD is full of video renders from the last video I made, not much space left, I think the uni has blocked CS as well

The uni's probably trying to keep their outpipe open. I've seen report's in the past of .edu's blocking many games because it was clogging bandwidth.
