Computer Problems.

I hope I'm in the right spot for this. Please direct me to the proper place if I'm in the wrong spot. I don't mean to offend anybody.

Anyways,

Ok, heres one to maybe stump you all.
I dont know when it started, but almost exactly after a week or so of me using this machine, it comes up with a
The File or Directory C: is corrupt and unreadable. Please Run the Chkdsk Utility.
error.
I always try and run checkdisk, but then it comes up with the exact same error trying to load Checkdisk.
I end up formatting, and reloading everything, and then almost exactly, the same thing happens in a week or just under. (its been 6 days now i think since the last time)
Anyway, this happens at different times. Once it happend when i was playing World OF Warcraft. Once it happend trying to load on my DVD Rom Burning Software. Once it happend trying to load an AVI file.
Anyone know what this is? why it keeps doing it or how to stop it?
Stats are 3.0Ghz processor, 2,048mb ram, Windows 2000 (though it happended with Win XP also)

Thanks a bunch for your help guys !

Well it sounds like you have crap for a hdd (actually a bad sector on the hdd)
You might be able to get the manufactors disk tools and have Windows bypass that sector for files or you may need/want to get a new hdd

so when the error pops up do you get some kind of bsod (blue screen of death) or something, and are you able to restart the pc again and have it run normaly after it happens
