Computer freezing up when disconnecting from internet

Whenever I click on the "disconnect" button to get off line, my whole computer locks up and forces me to do a hard shutdown every time.

Ctrl/Alt/Delete won't work either to allow me to restart windows. Once It's locked, I can't do a thing.

I also tried just just clicking "start/shutdown" when I am still online but it still freezes as soon as I loose my internet connection.

Any ideas besides throwing away my computer?

PS: This computer has just had a Windows 98 re-install because of a virus that screwed it up a few weeks ago. I just got it back from service so none of my settings are adjusted yet.

Sounds like you might have something wrong with your modem driver. You might want to go and get the newest driver for your modem.
