Computer is on the brink of crashing

Our computer is infected with the welchia worm virus. Whoever invented this bugger is very smart as it completely freezes over entire parts of your computer. I don't know what to do. I have tried to remove it with no avail. Is there a program which can delete it. Whenever I open norton anti-virus to remove the virus, it freezes over so it's pretty much impossible to get rid of. I cannot open anything on the desktop using the desktop icons nor can I open internet explorer more than once. It is completely destroying our computer. The settings are being set back to the default setting and the MSN message history is being deleted, so now, we are losing data. I need help . ANy advice would be wonderful!
