Cleaning up and erasing my hardrive

I guess I should ask how to erase my computer here. I have crap all over my computer now. I can't get rid of it with any of my virus removing programs, so I was hoping somone could tell me how to erase my computer completely clean and start from square one.
I don't have the operating system disc or anything so I need to know how to do it without it, or something.
Plz help, pleeeeease.

Well you could reformat your Drive. That completely clean out your drive. But you also loose the operating system, and if you dont have the disc then you have to go buy one or something. The easiest way to format would to boot from the Windows disc, but sice you dont have that you could always make a DOS boot disc and format from there.

By chance do you have an HP? They have builtin recovery drives that you can perform a full reformat without any disks.

What is HP?
How do you use it?
And if I can't use that, how do I do the DOS reformat thing?

HP = Hewlett Packard = PC Manufacturer

Doing the "DOS reformat thing" wouldn't really help if you don't have an OS cd.

I have a Dell that has Windows 2000. It was a copy from someone else, and I don't know if he has it anymore. Could I buy a copy of my own and use that? Or would I have to completely uninstall this one and install the new one?

If you don't have the disks, you'll need to purchase a new copy of Windows 2000, and do a reinstall with that disk.

Yes, you can buy a copy of Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro from www.zipzoomfly.com for $145-OEM. But, you have to buy a peice of hardware with it, so buy a cheap floppy drive for ~$10.

Why do I need new floppy drive?
Also, I did some looking, and it seems the web address to the site giving problems is located on my computer. If you read my post on the internet section you would know what my problem is, I have a site that keeps poping up as my homepage no matter how many times I change it in Internet Options. It is a file in my C: drive: res://C:\WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm. I was able to trace it all the way to the shdoclc part, and then I opened it with internet explorer. What came up was that website. I was going to delete it off my computer, but I'm afraid it will ruin something on my computer. What should I do?
