can't get a single channel on new tuner card
i am absolutely at my wit's end. it's nearly 12:30 in the morning and i can't get this $#*(%(# tuner card to do *anything*. it's the hauppage wintv go-plus. i hooked everything up and installed everything. but when i click 'autoscan' it can't find a single channel. when it scans by the channels it shoudl be picking up, all i can see is an incredibly pathetic, staticky picture. i can barely tell that there's a channel there at all - the signal is so weak that the tuner card doesn't even pick it up. oh and there's absolutely no sound either - not even static. what the ??? i'm gonna burst into tears over here.
ok here's some details. i don't have cable tv. 1 set of rabbit ears and 1 uhf loop antenna are hooked up to my vcr. the vcr is hooked up to the tuner card via a coax cable. in desperation i also hooked the vcr up to the tuner card via one of the yellow s-video cables. i have tried scanning for channels with the vcr off and with it on. no difference. *sigh* please help me.

Can you try to connect the rabit ears directly to the tuner card?

k i hooked it directly tot he tuner card and now i can get our local nbc station - barely. the picture is really bad and still no sound. and i just kind of make out our local abc and cbs stations. i can only tell that the pbs, fox, and upn stations (all uhf) exist because the static changes patterns a bit. that's it.

ok it's official - i am THE biggest idiot on the face of the planet. the little wire in the coax "port" on the signal combiner was bent and mashed flat in the bottom of the "port"! so i pulled it back out using needle nose pliers and - bingo - i can get all the stations! they are still fairly poor, but the antennas are laying on my floor right now.
also, i didn't realize that the 'line-in' thing was muted in the computer audio controls so i un-muted it and now i have sound. *sigh*. problems solved. thanks anyway, guys.
