Can you open Word 2007 docs in 2003?

Is there a plug-in that allows Word 2k7 files to be opened in 2k3? I've been using Office 2007 on the desktop, but now that I mostly just use the notebook I am considering replacing it with 2003 since my wife greatly prefers it.

Unfortunately, there is no plug-in that will allow you to directly open Office 07 files in Office 03. There is an online file converter though (converts from 07 docs to the older docs). I don't quite remember what the website is, you will need to google it. I have only used it once.

You should start saving docs as the older office doc versions for the best compatibility. I'm honestly not sure why microsoft even implemented the new file format. It has more disadvantages over advantages. Being a computer tech on campus, I can tell you that all it is doing is causing some major confusion and headaches.

Actually, you can install Microsoft's Compatibility Pack, which will allow you to do this. Here's a link to Microsoft's article:

There are compatibility packs available for as far back as Office XP. We have a massive Office XP install, and can open Office 2007 docs.
