Buying a new laptop/notebook

Ok here goes, I'm going to buy a new laptop for travel/work. Im used to owning AMD cpu's and Im not sure what to look for in a laptop. I have looked at a few with AMD 64 X2 CPU's and im not sure if they are any good compared to the Intel dual core? any input or recomendations? I would like to keep it under $1000. Thanks. Oh yeah, and at least a 15" screen.

Any other needs?
RAM?
Processor Speed requirements?
HDD size?

Here's some ideas so far.

I don't have any experience with AMD procs in laptops but I have installed a few HP Core 2 duo laptops and they are very fast. Make sure that you atleast get 1GB of RAM, 2 would be better.
