To buy or not to buy DVD movies
Some of you may know that I enjoy purchasing movies on DVD, but latley I have been holding off on new releases of movies becuase I'm trying to decide if I should wait for them to be released on HD-DVD / BlueRay. I'm waiting to see what happens with the two- I'm hoping HD-DVD wins out.
Is anyone else in this position? |

I honestly just do the netflix thing now. For me, owning movies isn't really worth it because they just sit there forever.

I don't rent movies, I like to have a copy. If I want to watch a movie at 2 in the morning, I go to my shelf and it's there. Same thing with the hardcopy-less trend that some companies are looking into.

I dunno, I have over 100 of them and I think i'm just going to sell them off.
I've watched maybe 5 out of the 100 in the past year.

I don't bother buying movies. They seem like a useless investment, seeing how I only watch a movie once and rarely twice. But on the side of the DVD battle I am hoping Blu-ray comes out on top.

I don't really have any problem buying DVD's because when I am at college I won't have a HDTV to watch high definition DVD's on anyway. Plus, both BlueRay and HD-DVD are way to expensive for me right now. Maybe in a few years.

I personally don't care who wins. I'm just waiting for one to come out on top so I know which ones to buy. If blu-ray wins I'll be happier because I'll have a Movie Player/Game Console/Old DVD Player/CD,MP3 Player/Media Center in the PS3 I want to buy. And the only equivilant (XBox 360) cost the same price if you add the HD-DVD player. So regardless, I'll be paying ~$500 or so
.I have seen a list of companys that are backing which and it looks like blu-ray has more backing. On a side note, the first HD porn was released recently called "Pirates" (Note: HD-DVD Format). The reason why I bring this up is I found out about it because Blockbuster (a company who is against porn) made a big deal about getting it because it was their first HD format movie... And then I looked it up online. The blockbuster version is rated R so I'm assuming it's about 30 min long. |

There's a bunch of movies I want to buy, but not sure if I should hold off... I could always re-purchash the ones I really want in HD I suppose. |

I know we try to keep this board as family friendly as possible, but on this subject, in the end whichever format gets backed by the porn industry is going to be which format wins out. There are more of "that kind" of movies that get sold each year than any other type (which is probably why Crimson brought up what format the 1st HD porn was).

I'm hoping that if HD take off, it will push down the price tag on DVDs. I'd buy more movies than I do atm if they weren't so expensive. On one hand, a lot of movies have really nice covers and special features, which justify a price, but on the other hand I don't really care if the film comes in a paper slip or in full colour covers.
I don't care at all about High Definition itself. I see all I need to see just fine on my regular ol' 28 inch TV right now. What matters to me in the end is what matters, I believe, to most consumers: the price. When I really think about it, it works kind of like this: If a movie costs 20 dollars, I buy one maybe every few months. If it cost 5 bucks, I'd probably buy 50 bucks worth per month. Which way does the industry win, assuming their expenses are covered with the price tag?
