I think it is going to be hard for any company to overcome Symantec in this business. Also, going through BitDefender's library of viruses there aren't that many. Additionally, BitDefender doesn't protect against all vartiations of viruses such as Korgo.V etc. I would pay the extra $5.00 for Norton.

I wouldn't pay anything, and get AVG.

I would pay for Norton over BitDefender if i didn't get Norton Corporate for free.

Completely free for home use, and i've never caught a virus while it was running. And it always catches email viruses :-)

Maybe you have viruses that avg isn't good enough to detect
just kidding!

No one has mentioned what a resource-hog Norton AV is. And if your on dial-up the large updates (for all the separate components) can be a pain aswell. I use Avast AV (Pro version). Updates are approx 4 times a week (Norton only once a week via live-update), and it hasn't failed me yet. very low system requirements is another plus point. I tried the free AVG but here in the UK the updater very often fails to connect to the download site and I just got fed up with repeated attempts. Avast has no update problems and they are small downloads. Come to think of it, Norton Live-update used to let me down quite often and required 2 or 3 tries.
