athlon xp 3200+ showing as 2500+

i bought a processor off ebay, an AMD athlon xp 3200+ number AXDA3200DKV4E it says on the chip.

yet is shows at startup as a 2500, and in cpu-z it shows as a 2500 too.

I recently upgraded my BIOS too, for the release that supports the BArton Core 3200 processor (which this is)

any ideas?

After the upgrade, did you go in and check the BIOS settings?

I dont know that much about BIOS, but when I boot up, it shows the BIOS version (and its the updated version) A fellow techie suggested going into the BIOS and checking the fsb speed setting

Its been a while since I've done anything with the xp, let alone the athlons. It could be power scaling, so the core isn't getting as much power as it should to cut back on power costs... Or as your friend said the FSB may be limiting it too.

Yeah you'll need to tweak the FSB and mabye the voltage settings. This is one of the reasons I stopped buying AMD-it requires too much futzing around to make it work right.

Realy? I've never had any problems with an AMD processor, and all four machines in my house are all running of AMD processors.

It comes down to luck I guess...

Nick: I'm 99% sure is an FSB settings problem. It could be jumper settings on your motherboard or the FSB is set too low in the BIOS. I do actually have an AMD 3200+ in one of my machines on a Gigabyte GA7N400L, so I can check things if you need me to.

Edit: Nick: I just went to my AMD3200+ machine, went into the BIOS and decreased the FSB frequency from 200 Mhz to 166Mhz, rebooted, and my processor turned from an 3200+ to a 2500+ - so I am now 100% sure it is the FSB frequency setting in your BIOS.

right, i opened up my case, because the BIOS says the jumpers are set...so I went looking for them...found them, but I have no idea what to set them to, as theres no informative marks on the board (at least to my eyes) so I took a macro picture, if anyone can show me how to set them, I'd appreciate it....HUGE image btw... oh, and this mobo is an AsRock K7S41GX

I see nothing. In my BIOS the setting to change is a software thing, no jumpers for me to move.
