Some applications will NOT compile in GCC 4.0 (FC5's default compiler). You can install GCC 3.2
to allow compiling applications which do not yet support GCC 4.0. Make sure to have the following RPM's installed. These are included with the CD's or DVD or online. Running 'yum install' on these names will also work. compat-gcc-32 (on CD-disk3) compat-gcc-32-c++ (on CD-disk4) To use either, run 'gcc32' or 'g++32'. Go here: http://www.mjmwired.net/linux/2005/1...ate-compilers/ for more guidance.

You could just do it using yum.
Login as a super-user, or root and type: yum install httpd ..and it will do everything for you. |

I some some basic about Linux, but overall I'm a N00b. I'll try YUM. But, I want to use the file I got from Apache's site, the latest version. They are not the RPM's either, do they have to be?
I am installing it manually because I want to learn the process. |

There isn't much to learn really, its just
./configure make make install Usually RPMs are easier, and if you know where to go (http://www.rpmfind.net is good) you can get some of the latest and easiest to install. |

The only probelm with that is you can't tie PHP into mysql and into apache for specific settings such as turch, GD, etc can you?

I don't think so, but later you should be able to compile it in all seperately.. I think.
If you insert your install CD then go to the Add/Remove Applications dialog you may be able to install php, mySQL and loads of developers tools (useful for compiling stuff) from there. At least you could in FC2
