I am thinking of getting an Xbox 360

I want to get a next generation system. I would get the Wii but my brother and other close friends already own it so I can go over to there house and play it. I primarily want the Xbox 360 for Halo and xbox live.

My main concern is about the bugs I have heard about so
should I get an extended warranty through the retailer?

Is it true that Microsoft extended the standard warranty from 1 year to 3 years?

Also, what other games can people recommend to get? I play mostly first person shooters. Thanks

I can't wait for the responses to this thread.

I am torn between getting a 360 or a Wii myself.

The warranty is three years when Microsoft announced http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...arrantyfaq.htm.

As far as FPS's go,

Halo 3
Gears of War
CoD4
Orange Box
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Quake 4
F.E.A.R.
Mass Effect
Timeshift (maybe)

As of now, the 360's have a smaller GPU core which reduces the heat that the 360 gives off and may improve your chances of not overheating.

I never have liked the 360 (though I do have a 360 controller for my computer), and I did buy a Wii. In my opinion the Wii is amazing! More or less all the games that come out on the 360 come out for the pc as well. Plus you cannot play Super Smash Brawl on the 360

I have the Wii-it is amazing. Heck, just the ability to play Super Mario Brothers and Mario Kart 64 makes it worth while.

Hmm, I want to get the 360 because I can go anywhere and play the Wii at a friends or Brothers house. I don't know to many people that have 360's

The 3 year warranty only covers consoles that have the flashing red light. Will it pay off to get an extended warranty from best buy? The only thing I have heard about the Xbox is the flashing red light problem. Does anyone know any others?

For the most part, the red flashing light was due to the larger CPU core along with a loose wire, you shouldn't have the problem with the new models now though.

I would recommend buying the console through Best Buy and purchasing their warrenty; if anything happens, take it back and you get a new one.

If I purchase a warrenty through bestbuy, once that warrenty is up will I be given the option to renew it?

I don't really like consoles at all so I can't answer any warrenty questions, but I did want to give the advice .... get the halo version, if you get one. It has a 65nm chip instead of a 90nm and you shouldn't have so many overheating issues.

Yes, you can always renew the warranty if you'd like.
